Royal Orchard

Royal Orchard is located in the West of Markham, bordering the Uplands community of Vaughan City. The green space covers almost half of the community's land area. The railway runs through the community, which serves Go Train and transcontinental freight train owned by Canadian National Railway.

Community Overview

The community of Royal Orchard runs from Yonge Street on the west to Pomona Mills Park on the south, Bayview Avenue on the east, and Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home on the North. The community has excellent green spaces, and residents can enjoy many outdoor activities at parks, hiking trails, and golf clubs.

1. Housing:

Detached homes, most with generous lot sizes, are dominant freehold real estate at Royal Orchard Markham. Approximately 80% of the properties were completed between the 1960s and 1970s, with the remaining most finished in 1980. Many apartments and traditional condo townhomes sit beside Bayview Avenue and Yonge Street. About 80% of residents of Royal Orchard are homeowners.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Royal Orchard Markham sold 13 detached houses on average of $1,839,077; 7 Town homes on average of $855,714; 9 condos on average of $655,389.

2. Demographic:

With the majority of residents of European descent, more recent immigrants from Iran, China, and Russia are moving into the community. The median age is around 50 years old, which is more senior than the Ontario average.

3. Transportation:

Public transit is considered convenient in Royal Orchard. Several bus lines run through the community, and bus stops are generally within walking distance of residences. The nearest Go station is the Langstaff Go, where residents can expect the future Yonge North Subway Extension has a terminal station here. For active car commuters, Highway 407, a toll expressway just north of the neighborhood, links two significant Highways, 404 and 400. Furthermore, it takes around 15 minutes to drive to highway 401 via Yonge Street or Bayview Avenue.

4. Recreation:

Royal Orchard Park and Pomona Mills Park offer quiet hiking loop trails, which take around 20 minutes to complete. Ladies Golf Club is the only private golf club created for women, with a golf field that spans more than a mile from Yonge Street to Bayview Avenue.

5. Shopping:

Most parts of shops concentrate close to Yonge Street. Residences can find supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops, and many service stores here. Plaza close to Bayview also offers a variety of ethnic food experiences.

6. Schools:

There are three elementary schools serving the community. Divided by the railway, Baythorn Public School accepts students from the southwest of the neighborhood and Stornoway Crescent Public School from the northeast. E.J. Sand Markham Public school is for neighborhood close to John Street. Baythorn Public School recently ranks 118 over 3037 elementary schools by Fraser Institutes.

The neighborhood west of the railway attends Thornhill secondary school, and the east of the community is zoned for Thornlea Secondary School. Both Schools accept international students and offer ESL courses. In addition, Thornlea Secondary School offers specialized programs such as French Immersion and Advanced Placement (AP).
